Initialy, the association was established as Local Action Group – Elhovo, founded on 21 April 2010, with its area of operation being the Municipality of Elhovo. The association is registered under the terms and conditions of the Non-Profit Legal Entities Act as an association carrying out activities in the public benefit, as a public–private partnership in connection with the implementation of Axis 4 LEADER of the Rural Development Programme (2007–2013).
Subsequently, in the period December 2015 – May 2016, within the implementation of a project for preparatory technical assistance under Measure 19 “Community-led Local Development” of the Rural Development Programme 2014–2020, the association expanded its territorial scope by including the territory of the Municipality of Bolyarovo, and LAG–Elhovo was renamed “Local Action Group – Elhovo – Bolyarovo”.
During the 2007–2013 programming period, LAG – Elhovo successfully implemented a Local Development Strategy in its area of operation under the Rural Development Programme 2007–2013 – Axis 4 LEADER.
The Community-led Local Development Strategy of “Local Action Group – Elhovo – Bolyarovo” was approved in October 2016 and is being implemented under the signed Agreement for the implementation of a Community-led Local Development Strategy No. RD 50-143 under Measure 19 “Community-led Local Development” of the Rural Development Programme 2014–2020, financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
